Nicole’s Lounge After – Asymmetrical

The Interior Design & Styling students recently went on a field trip to Domayne at Kotara for a styling session. The staff at Domayne allowed the students to style a space of their choice in either a symmetrical, asymmetrical or radial balance. The students work was then assessed by the class on how the space was working and what could be done differently.

Newcastle Home Show

A hearty congratulations to everyone who participated in the Newcastle Home Show and Hunter Design School Room Competition.

What and effort!! It has to be said that the final results were amazing!

The three rooms were put together by second year diploma students Nicole Marshall (Crysalis Designs), Yvonne Cooper (Eve Designs) and Jodi Thomas (Spice by Jodi) and their teams of Foundation students.

Teams were allocated a type of bed, bedside table and ozipods and given the dimensions of the space and had access to Spotlight, Rovert Lighting and Bristol for paint and wallpaper. The rest was up to their imaginations and creativity.
Team Chrysalis created a serene adult retreat, featuring a beautiful wall of floating dragon flies. The space was inviting and tactile, viewers felt inspired to touch and experience the space.

Team Eve created a fun and energetic kids bedroom. Red, blue and white were the key colours creating a striking combination. The lively red wallpaper and kids swing engaged both old and young. They created a life size window to add mystery and charm, captivating the audience.

Team Spice opted for a multipurpose bedroom, creating a functional space complete with the essentials for fashion design and creativity. The bold orange and reds courted the eye through the space, organic chalk and layers of textured fabrics enticed viewers to enter and touch.

The overall winner was Team Chysalis, however all the designs were met with such positivity that the real winner was the charity ‘Life Education’.

A big thank you has to go out to the team at Spotlight, Rovert Lighting, Bristol, Latex Bedding and Ozrobes who all supplied us with everything we needed!

An amazing experience for all involved – can’t wait for 2011!!
