Making Melbourne Iconic Make Me Iconic

review:  art auction by kiasmin burrell

The Art Auction night was one great success! And what I loved most was the generosity, compassion and support from the Novocastrians. Local artists donating their work and people donating their time and money to raise much needed funds to help our neighbours in Queensland. And that is what it’s all about! I say good on you Newcastle!  You champions!

We would like to thank the local artist’s: Chris Elfes, Dorothy Compton, Rohan Harvey, Kiasmin Burrell, Sophie Brenton, Naomi Nichols, Mel Cliffton, Robert Connell, Rona, Louise Sauer, Micheal Jones, Aaron Craig, Lauren Burrows, Kim Long, Sarah Gluschke, Stephen James and Mike Phelps.

On the move

The rapid growth in 2010 has meant a change of venue. Hunter Design School has moved into a big, beautiful new space with street frontage. Students can now display their amazing work for everyone to appreciate. The school also now sits side by side with Liquid Colour. This has meant that students have opportunities to experience how a design business is operated, with real clients, networking with industry professionals, resources and materials.

Newcastle Home Show

A hearty congratulations to everyone who participated in the Newcastle Home Show and Hunter Design School Room Competition.

What and effort!! It has to be said that the final results were amazing!

The three rooms were put together by second year diploma students Nicole Marshall (Crysalis Designs), Yvonne Cooper (Eve Designs) and Jodi Thomas (Spice by Jodi) and their teams of Foundation students.

Teams were allocated a type of bed, bedside table and ozipods and given the dimensions of the space and had access to Spotlight, Rovert Lighting and Bristol for paint and wallpaper. The rest was up to their imaginations and creativity.
Team Chrysalis created a serene adult retreat, featuring a beautiful wall of floating dragon flies. The space was inviting and tactile, viewers felt inspired to touch and experience the space.

Team Eve created a fun and energetic kids bedroom. Red, blue and white were the key colours creating a striking combination. The lively red wallpaper and kids swing engaged both old and young. They created a life size window to add mystery and charm, captivating the audience.

Team Spice opted for a multipurpose bedroom, creating a functional space complete with the essentials for fashion design and creativity. The bold orange and reds courted the eye through the space, organic chalk and layers of textured fabrics enticed viewers to enter and touch.

The overall winner was Team Chysalis, however all the designs were met with such positivity that the real winner was the charity ‘Life Education’.

A big thank you has to go out to the team at Spotlight, Rovert Lighting, Bristol, Latex Bedding and Ozrobes who all supplied us with everything we needed!

An amazing experience for all involved – can’t wait for 2011!!
